Happy Sunday. We’ve survived quite a bit this week in Chicago including Tornado watch and a dust storm that settled over the city so quickly it was like living in some sort of natural disaster film (stay alive, everybody).
May is my favorite month. Has been for along time, probably because of the feeling of driving toward the end of the school year it brought up when I was a child. It’s also peony season and lily-of-the-valley season and lilac season. The world is green and smells divine and that’s all I can ask for from this disparate world where so much is out of my control.
What’s Coming Up
A reading of my play, The Sporting Life, is coming up in Chicago on May 20th at Jackalope Theatre. This is so exciting because I first started working on The Sporting Life in Jackalope’s playwriting lab, led by Calamity West.
FREE Tickets are available now. But don’t wait too long. This event is one-night-only!The Ghostwriting Blueprint: Still cranking it out and hoping to have it live mid-June now. A discounted pre-order will open soon. I PROMISE.
I am always offering consultations and coaching on ghostwriting or romance writing, so if you need some guidance, feel free to reach out (rates are negotiable).
What I’ve Written
My latest Substack, what if men were afraid to walk alone at night?, went live last Wednesday and has received some fantastic feedback.
I broke my 750 words streak and have not yet returned…I want to return to it with a gameplan to really utilize those 750 words to their full advantage. Starting tomorrow…
What I’m Working On
Booked another ghostwriting call! Click here to learn more and book.
Oh, and guess what? I do romance book coaching too! I booked my first romance coaching call 🤓 After writing 40+ romances for ghostwriting clients I think it’s high time I make that experience even more useful and help others get their romances off the ground.
A new play idea…STILL brewing…inspired by the male 🙄 loneliness 🙄 epidemic 🙄…
Still very active on TikTok. Click here to find me.
In the meantime, you can support me and my work by buying me a coffee.
What I’m Listening To
Against my will, the drum break from “Aja”.
What I’m Reading
I started the audiobook for The Wager on my road trip and nearly fell asleep NOT BECAUSE IT’S BORING but because the narrator’s voice is so smooth…
The library charged me for my overdue copy of The Art of Frugal Hedonism, so clearly gotta get on that.
I wish I was a better reader. There are seasons of my life where I read nonstop and seasons, like this one, where a book can’t hold my attention without tying me up and leaving me to die, so. Just in case you too need validation for having seasons of reading, just like you may have seasons of other things, this is for you.
What I’m Watching
The Vivian Girls. My good friend, Liz Falstreau, directed a beautiful reading of a new play at The Factory Theatre and I was lucky enough to snag a ticket. I always love what the Factory puts on, even better when my friends are involved, so this was a true treat.
I showed my boyfriend one of my Letterboxd top 4, The A-Team. Yes, The A-Team. It’s a masterpiece, I don’t care what you say.
The new season of Taskmaster is a riot, although when is it not? I’m having the time of my life, especially with the first American contestant being Jason Mantzoukas.
Other Things I Loved
Columbus, Ohio. My boyfriend’s hometown. We visited his folks for the first time last week and it was a true treat and a half.
Taking a break. I took a break from every habit I’ve cultivated over the past 50+ days. And surprisingly, those habits didn’t feel abandoned when i came back. I was reinvigorated to come back to them. Attack them. Embrace them. So I’m back at the gym with heavier weights and I’m making plans I don’t doubt myself over. I’m manifesting.
That’s all from me. Hope to read more books in the coming weeks. Too bad during my road trip I have to do all the driving.
Tenderly until next time,
Marjorie
In Love Letters, I explore the rage and joy of being a woman, the truth in contradiction, and the profound hidden in the pedestrian. If this piece resonated with you, tap the heart below. If you want it to resonate with others, consider restacking or sharing with your friends. And if you’d like to support my work further, the best way is by becoming a subscriber.
You also might have noticed this Substack is now entitled "Love and Deadlines". A slow, cautious rebranding, but I think I like it :)
